Welcome to the Human Services Network

The Better Service Delivery Program (BSDP) was established to help welfare and community agencies to share information and improve their services to clients.

The Program commenced in July 2001 to improve coordination between the large number of agencies across New South Wales and make use of current internet technology to provide agencies with the tools to communicate with one another, to provide faster, more accurate referrals and to work with clients more effectively.

Supported by funding from the New South Wales Government, the Program was introduced to government and non-government agencies across the state that deliver human services in New South Wales.

The development phase of the program is now complete and an operational team - the Human Services Network will continue to support the program aims.

HSNet

HSNet is a web site for staff working in the NSW human services sector. It helps agencies to improve their efficiency in helping clients.

HSNet provides:

  • All kinds of information relevant to your work
  • Access to the Program’s electronic client referral tools, ServiceLink and ReferralLink
  • Access to online learning and other resources

ServiceLink

ServiceLink is a comprehensive online directory of human services in NSW, putting people in touch with the services they need.

ServiceLink provides organisational information (address, web site, email, telephone, fax details) and displays specific details for each service including:

  • a description of the service provided
  • opening hours and costs
  • maps and geographical coverage details
  • access eg. wheelchair and disabled parking facilities
  • service setting eg. community centre
  • interpreter services and target groups.

ReferralLink

ReferralLink, a component of ServiceLink, is a way of making inter-agency referrals. It allows agencies to refer clients to other agencies using secure systems and to track the progress of the referral. It improves delivery of services by:

  • introducing common referral protocols
  • streamlining the client's interaction with agencies
  • protecting client privacy through a clear client consent process.

Participants

Both government and over 1500 non-government organisations are part of the Human Services Network. These include city-based agencies and agencies located in rural areas.

The NSW Government Departments involved in the Program are:

  • Ageing, Disability and Home Care
  • Community Services
  • Education and Training
  • Housing
  • Aboriginal Affairs
  • NSW Health
  • Juvenile Justice
  • Premier’s - Office for Women
  • Attorney General's
  • NSW Police
  • Commerce

Non-government agencies that provide welfare or community services to people in need are welcome to join.

Joining the Human Services Network

The Human Services Network is open to all agencies that provide human services in New South Wales. There are no special requirements and it is free to join.

Your agency may provide childcare or medical support, legal advice or help with education. It may be a very small agency in a country town or a large, city-based organisation.

If your agency provides welfare or community services to people in need, you are eligible to join.

After your agency has joined, you will be able to use HSNet and its resources.

HSNet will help you to communicate with government organisations and to share information with agencies across New South Wales. It will help you to work together with other agencies to provide better service to people in need.
